Vision & Mission
I am the Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum. I serve my community, and those who visit it by honoring our ancestors. Ralph Mark Gilbert pioneered movements that empowered the African American people in Savannah, and I stand as a tribute to him. I want the people that walk through these rooms and hallways to leave with a new knowledge of our city’s history. Whether you are 5 or 50, I want to share my stories with you and I want for you to share them in all their truths, along with your own to other people, and future generations.
A community learns from its past, and our rich history should guide us to do better, to fight for our beliefs and to empower one another. It is a hard battle that our ancestors fought, and we must continue to recognize their efforts as best we can so we can pave the way for a brighter future of togetherness.
